A extended cruise circling the Land Down Under has been cancelled following the tragic passing of an older lady who was stranded by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the group for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the ship staff became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission located her body the next day.

Authorities are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and personnel on the vessel were informed that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and prior technical problems".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to organize the return journeys of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also issued an latest announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Commander" preventing any further travelers from boarding the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the vessel in the Australian city upon its return.

Timeline of Events

The liner first departed the Australian port on October 24th, and was just two days into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's passing. The tropical location was the opening port on the itinerary.

Guests on the vessel - who typically pay large sums of dollars to join the expedition - were transported there for a daily excursion with the possibility of walking or snorkelling.

Relatives Statement

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "stunned and saddened that the vessel left Lizard Island after an scheduled tour without my mother".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a member of a hiking club.

"According to scant facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a breakdown of responsibility and basic judgment," she stated.
