The Princess of Wales's Traditional Yuletide Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will hear a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the concert.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
